«LAOGRAFIKI - ARCHEOLOGIKI ETERIA ELASSONAS»

The folk dancing group «LAOGRAFIKI - ARCHEOLOGIKI ETERIA ELASSONAS» was established in 1978 and is α non - profit cultural association dedicated to promote folk dances music, culture, arts. The activities involve α dancing group, α large number of studies and publications, α folklore collection, cultural events and exchanges, and participations in European Union programmes. The group is one of the well - known Greek folk dancing groups.
The members of the group live in town Elassona (15.000 people). Elassona is situated 40 km from the nearest big city Larissa (Thessaly, Central Greece) and 20 km from the famous mountain Olympus.
Hundreds of performances have made the group well known in Greece and abroad. «LAOGRAFIKI - ARCHEOLOGIKI ETERIA ELASSONAS» has performed often in Greek towns and cities and has travelled widely abroad, taking part in international festivals.
The group has visited:
SPAIN(8 times), BELARUS(2 times), BULGARIA(2 times), GERMANY(3 times), PORTUGAL(2 times), BELGIUM, TURKEY, RUSSIA, YUGOSLAVIA(2 times), ITALY(3 times), FRANCE, DENMARK, SWEDEN, AUSTRIA, etc.
During these performances, the dancing group presented music and dance art of Greek folklore to foreign audiences, who have spoken highly about it. The group has won gold and bronze medals and prizes in international competitions for authentic national dressing and accurate presentation of traditional dances and music with variety of rhythms and melodies.
There are performances and presentatίons in big famous theatres and cities (Concert ΗαΙΙ of Moscow - Russia, Ancient Theatre of Merida - Spain, Royal Theatre of Palma Mallorca, Santa Cruz - Tenerife, Madrid - Spain, Seville-
Spain, Almeria - Spain, Minsk - Belarus, Barcelona Spain, Lisboa - Portugal, Brussels - Belgium, Warsaw Poland, etc.) and in television channels of European countries.
In the programme of performances, there are many old Greek dances and some new ones (“Zorbas”, “Hasapiko”, “Sirtaki”). These dances are from all parts of Greece and, of course, from area of Elassona and mountain Olympus.
The folk dancing group «LAOGRAFIKI - ARCHEOLOGIKI ETERIA ELASSONAS» is α «live piece» of cultural Elassona and α worthy representative of this historic town in Greece and abroad.
