ABOUT US
Representative folklore dance ensemble “Haskovo” was created in 1975 in the town of Haskovo. Founder and chief artistic instructor till today is Ana Dimitrova – a choreographer and pedagogue with many years of experience in the field of Bulgarian folklore dance. Having passed through difficulties and successes, in its more than 30-years history ensemble “Haskovo” progresses towards the peaks of performing mastery, thanks to the love for folklore and enthusiasm of both its creator and leader and the assistants and performers.
Folklore dance ensemble “Haskovo” is a group with unique charm and appearance. Over 170 dancers, from 5 to 25 years old, participate in it, distributed in various groups according to their age.
The ensemble has three concert formations – two children’s
- small – from 5 to 9 years old and
- medium from 10 to 14 years old and
- youths from 14 to 20 years.
Each one of these formations has its own repertoire that is consistent with the age and dancing skills of the people included in it and is capable of giving independent performances on a high level.
REPERTOIRE
The ensemble’s repertoire is extremely varied. The dances included in it re-create on the stage the whole affluence of rhythms and movements that exist in the Bulgarian folklore dance.
In the children’s concert formations, we select dances based on kids’ folklore games from all regions in Bulgaria. The goal is to achieve a completely stylish and true performance of each dance staging. Besides being stylish and skillful dancers, the young performers from the ensemble also reveal themselves as wonderful actors in the chamber dances. They create a whole zoo from “bears”, “bunnies”, “foxes” and “birds” or build a whole fair on the stage.
In the youth concert formation, we pick complicated and beautiful dance performances from all ethnographical regions in Bulgaria. The performing mastery of the dancers in this group allows the recreation on stage of the whole beauty and variety of the Bulgarian folklore dance. The humoristic chamber dances bring good disposition and freshness. The chamber dances on love or historical themes are also of high artistic value and aesthetical effect.
Besides the terrific choreography and the wonderful performance, the public is also fascinated by the colorful richness of the ensemble’s costumes. The affluent wardrobe is consistent with the stylish wealth of dresses in the various ethnographical regions on Bulgaria. The ensemble’s costumes refresh and shape each concert of the groups with their beauty, with the colors of the Bulgarian embroidery and the splendid accessories, and they create the unique appearance of ensemble “Haskovo”.
The concerts of the ensemble “Haskovo” turn themselves into festivals of the national creativity, of the talent and the genius of the Bulgarian people that has created and preserved through the ages the wealth called Bulgarian folklore.
PARTICIPATIONS AND AWARDS
In its 30-year history, ensemble “Haskovo” has carried out hundreds of concerts in the country and abroad. Each year, besides its many concerts, the ensemble also takes part in national and international festivals.
The ensemble is a carrier of the title “Representative ensemble of Bulgaria”, awarded to it on 29.05.1984. It also has golden medals from the Republican festivals in 1979, 1984 and 1989. For its 25-year anniversary, ensemble “Haskovo” received the Golden lyre of the Union of musical and dance workers in Bulgaria.
