Latin American Folkloric/Modern Dance Group

Since exploding onto the Canadian arts scene 10 years ago, Grupo America has been dazzling North American audiences with their spectacular Latin dance shocase. Grupo America pushes stylistic boundaries by presenting a potpourri of dances from every corner of the America's. The show combines "sizzling-sexy" modern routines with beautiful traditional numbers taht will take your breath away. Their multitude of striking costumes sets us apart from any dance company you have ever seen, and you will be treated to a visual explosion of color and glamour. Grupo America boasts talented dancers and choreographers from some of the best folkloric ballets in Latin America. Grupo America has also received international acclaim; including a recent award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as "Canadian Cultural Ambassadors." With over 2000 internation shows and appearances, this extraordianr group has gained a reputation as one of Canada's elite entertainers with their irrepressible passion, energy, talent and sabor!

Grupo America is comprised of dancers and choreographers from diverse dance backgrounds. Diego Sanchez is the main choreographer of the group, and it is his creations we see on stage. Great care is taken to give authentic interpretations to all their dances. Some of the more familiar dances include: Salsa, Mambo, Cumbia, Samba, Lambada, Tango, Flamenco, Polynesian, Afro-Latin, Swing and more. Grupo America is differnt from other dance companies because they do not simply focus on one dance style; instead, they display a wide variety of dances accompanied by beautiful colorful costumes. No Matter waht the dance is, audiences will be left breathless by their spectacular show!

We are a Vancouver-based dance troupe, specializing in a variety of modern & traditional Latin American dances. Headed by Colombian born siblings Diego & Erika Sanchez, Grupo America offers classes in Salsa, Cha Cha, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, Rueda, Flamenco, Mambo, Tango, Ballet, Hip Hop, Belly Dance, and Swing. Diego Sanchez has been dancing and teaching salsa for over 7 years and is regarded as one of the most recognizable and distinguished figures in the Salsa scene.

This group is for members and students of Grupo America, as well as anyone interested in taking dance classes or learning more about Grupo America’s events.
